clips and trailers: Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011)
No CommentAnother one I prepped for Cinerama on Phantom 105.2, this one’s from a few weeks back so I thought it’d be a bit much to call it news…
This film popped up on my radar a few months ago, mainly because of it’s strange title, Martha Marcy May Marlene, doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue… I decided to have a closer look… and it looks like it could be a good one! It’s a psychological thriller starring the youngest Olson sister, Elizabeth, and Sarah Paulson… who you might remember from American Gothic. No? Just me? Well, it left a lasting impression on me…
Ok, it scared the crap out of me, happy now?
Anyway, Martha Marcy May Marlene premièred at Sundance Film Festival this year and earned writer / director Sean Durkin a prize for Best Directing and a nomination for the Grand Jury Prize. Not bad for his first feature.
The film’s about a young woman (Olson) who has trouble readjusting when she rejoins her sister and her sister’s husband after running away from a cult. The clips and trailers will make it look much more interesting than I can make it sound, so have a look and let me know what you think…
