indie film: Joseph’s Reel (pre-production)
1 CommentRecently I was contacted by Collie McCarthy, a young London-based Irish producer who wanted to tell me about an upcoming short film he’s working on, Joseph’s Reel. I had a look and it sounded right up my alley so I thought I’d better tell you about it. The concept is…
If you could relive one day of your life… Which day would you choose?
As you know, I’m quite the sci-fi fan and although I get the impression that this isn’t a sci-fi story, I really like the concept. They’ve also been doing some pretty neat stuff online around the idea, check out these great vox pops from a selection of people in Covent Garden.
The filmmakers already have Yasmin Paige, of Richard Ayoade’s Submarine and The Double fame, on board and have raised over half of their Kickstarter goal however… I’d rather not reveal much more about it but traditional 35mm is also an integral part of the film so they are planning to shoot the whole thing on 35mm, a much more expensive endeavour than the average indie film these days.
Director and cinematographer team, Michael Lavers and Eben Bolter have previously worked together on a few projects including well regarded independent feature, Red Heart. Bolter as well was recently featured in the prestigious industry magazine, American Cinematographer.
I have to admit, I wouldn’t generally cover short film on the site – in fact I think this might be the first one – but with the experience of these young filmmakers and the strength of the concept I felt like this was project worth highlighting.
You can check out the sizzle reel and find out more about the film on the Kickstarter page. Follow them on Twitter, @Josephs_Reel, and on Facebook to keep up to date with their progress.

I’ve mentioned before, I get quite a few e-mails from independent film makers asking if I can highlight their films. Last year I was hoping to make this a regular feature… and I’m still hoping to do that. If you have a film you want to highlight, contact me by e-mail: nicola at averagefilmreviews dot com.
Thanks for the shout out Nicola
