movie news: 19th Jameson Empire Awards Nominations Announced
No CommentEmpire, the world’s biggest movie brand, have announced the nominees for the Jameson Empire Awards 2014. Unlikely many of the other awards you’ve seen floating around for the last few months, the Empire Awards are unique in British cinema in that they are voted for by the public, not the industry.
That said, they aren’t the MTV Movie Awards, no Best Kiss or Best Couple categories here. The Jameson Empire Awards recognise that audiences enjoy a wide range of films, not just the typical award-winning dramas out there. Categories such as Best Horror and Best Comedy mean that even smaller films are in with a shout to win something. Over the years previous winners have included such diverse films as: Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Thor, Kill List, The Inbetweeners Movie, Avatar, Inception and In The Loop.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug leads the pack with 7 nominations however Oscar contender 12 Years a Slave isn’t far behind with 6 nominations. Captain Phillips, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Gravity are all up there as well with 5, 5 and 4 nominations a piece respectively.
All that said… it is a popular vote. So if you want those unique films recognised, get to it. You can cast your votes here: Vote for The Jameson Empire Award Shortlist
