movie news: New trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)
1 CommentJudging by the response on the averagefilmreviews Facebook page, people are really looking forward to Star Trek Into Darkness.
Which is handy, because it’s coming out soon.
Personally, I am a big Star Trek but it’s always been more of a TV thing with me. Don’t get me wrong, I loved 2009’s Star Trek (review) as much as the next gal, but it’ll always be ST:TOS, ST:TNG and ST:DS9 that I think of when you say Star Trek.
Well the tv series and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home… humpback whales, transparent aluminium, genius.
The reason I’ve always gone for the TV series is that they always had a lot more time to explore the human side and consquences of space travel. Sci-fi is one of my favourite genres, particularly because it explores human society. Good sci-fi gives us a glimpse into the future that some people out there imagine and I always think that’s interesting…
The Star Trek films have always been little more than action blockbusters, and none more so than the J.J. Abrams version. Which is not to say I’m not looking forward to this… I like action blockbusters… but it’s not really sci-fi just because there’s a spaceship in it.
Aside from that though, this seems to be a pretty good trailer. They’ve done a fairly good job at hiding the story from us. Even though I’m sure we’re seeing stuff from near the end of the film, without context it still leaves us a lot of discover when watching it. The one thing I do notice, as a lot of people have pointed out, is that it does seem to be quite planet based. But then, given that The Voyage Home is my favourite ST film, I’m not really going to complain about that.
Take a look at the trailer and let me know what you think yourself…
I like the trailer and I am also a big fan of Star Trek, but in my head Star Trek will always be associated with Jean Luc-Picard (Patrick Stewart). I just can’t accept this pretty boy (Chris Pine) playing a character that deserves a real actor. I watched the previous Star Trek 2009, and even though I liked it because it is a Star Trek movie, I was really dissapointed. I hope this one will be different.
