movie news: New Trailer for Iron Man 3

I know a lot of people are looking forward to Iron Man 3. And I suppose, in a way, I’m looking forward to it too. Or more accurately, I’m not not looking forward to it.
It’s just that, I’ve never been a big fan of the Iron Man films. I’m a fan of the character for sure. Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark is a great laugh, a role he was born to play. It’s just that, for me, they’ve never managed to commit to screen a villain who… seemed a worthwhile adversary. I think it’s just that Tony Stark is such a character that the villains they have him up against seem empty by comparison. Obviously he’s going to beat them. I know they’re comic book villains… but do they have to be comic book villains?
I want to see Tony Stark up against a villain with some personality. Someone who can match wits. I don’t know if we’re going to get this in Iron Man 3. I’d be lying if I said this new trailer fills me with hope…
If anything it suggests to me that the villains are getting more ridiculous, but hey. There’s a lot of explosions and I’m sure Downey Jr. will manage a host of funny quips along the way. Maybe the spectacle will make up for it.
Or maybe The Mandarin is a villain that for at least 15 mins, might actually seem like could best the Iron Man.
