competition: Win cinema tickets with Sony Digital Cinemas!
38 Comments###COMPETITION CLOSED###
Digital cinema projection is moving full steam ahead and it’s something that I think is a great advancement for cinema.
The debate rages on regarding filming in digital vs. 35mm, and I have to say it’s something I know little about. What I do know is that the benefits of projection in digital are easy to see for the average cinema-goer. The fact is, the picture and sound quality out of digital projectors is far higher than what you get from a 35mm projector.
The inescapable reality of 35mm projection is that prints degrade quickly, especially when they are being shipped all over the world, and the quality is just not what consumers expect these days.
On Monday Sony signed a contract with leading Irish independent cinema chain, Spurling Group Cinema (SGC) to install Sony’s new 4K projectors in SGC Dungarvan, from November 2012.
To celebrate that fact, Sony have given us 2 cinema tickets to give away for average film reviews readers to experience Sony 4K digital projection themselves.
###COMPETITION CLOSED###

###COMPETITION CLOSED###
Please note, the tickets will have to be used at a Sony Digital Cinema enabled cinema.
To find your nearest available cinema have a look at the map below. You’ll see there are plenty in the UK but in Ireland the only cinema which has them is Vue Liffey Valley so bear that in mind when you are entering.
Sony have been making strides in digital projector technology and they are now rolling out Sony 4K projectors. With four times the megapixels of 2K and HD, the technology bring more detail and more importantly better fluidity to the images – a problem which has at times reared its head, especially when it comes to 3D. They’re also brighter so that problem I’ve often spoken of, dark and murky 3D films, is far less of an issue with these new projectors.
If you’re looking for more information on Sony 4K projection have a look at their Facebook page or their video on Vimeo.
