clips and trailers: Knuckle (2011)

Knuckle is a new Irish Film Board and BBC Storyville funded documentary exploring the world of bare-knuckle boxing in the Irish Travellers community in the UK.

Over 12 years director Ian Palmer shot footage of these fights and of the people who partake in this sub-culture, known only to many because of Guy Ritchie’s, Snatch. Palmer explores the brutal family feuding between the McDoyle and Joyce clans, examining the relationships between the different group and the rules and regulations which govern this seemingly lawless tradition.

Knuckle premiered in January this year at Sundance Film Festival and is showing in the Irish Film Institute till Thursday 25th August 2011. For those outside Dublin, you can find it on Volta – an Irish site for online independent film distribution. You can rent it there, link on the right hand side of the page.
